Mental Health Planning Advisory Council PDF Print

The Mental Health Planning Advisory Council (MHPAC) for the State of Nevada was established in 1989 with the goal of serving as an advocate for chronically mentally ill individuals, severely emotionally disturbed children and youth, and other individuals with mental illnesses or emotional problems.

The Council is a group of concerned people who work to advocate for adults and children with mental illnesses throughout Nevada. The members of the Council work in a variety of ways to improve the way services are provided to consumers, to help bring more money into the State system, to promote awareness of mental health issues, and to provide education and training opportunities.

The three duties outlined for mental health planning and advisory councils (PACs) in federal law are as follows:

  1. Review the State Mental Health Plan.
  2. Serve as an advocate for adults with serious mental illness (SMI), children with serious emotional disturbance (SED), and others with mental illnesses and emotional problems.
  3. Monitor, review, and evaluate the allocation and adequacy of mental health services.

The Council is continually working to achieve these goals and is happy to provide information to anyone who wants to learn about and participate in the work we do.
