Our Mission is to help adults with mental illness improve their quality of life.

The Community Mental Health Act passed under the administration of President John F. Kennedy paved the way for Southern Nevada to develop and open a community mental health center. The mental health care system in Southern Nevada developed in the mid 1960's.

The beginnings of the mental health delivery systems differed substantially in southern and northern parts of the Silver State. Whereas in northern Nevada, mental health services evolved from a hospital based institutional setting, in southern Nevada, the mental health service system relied primarily on community-based programs. Both systems have evolved into a comprehensive service delivery system. Southern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services has clinics and locations in various communities within Clark County and a centralized inpatient hospital. The variety of community based clinics offer easy access throughout Clark County. Southern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services (SNAMHS) is licensed by the State of Nevada. The facility is accredited by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and by the Joint Commission.

SNAMHS provides both inpatient and outpatient services for people living in this county and persons living in surrounding counties that may be closer geographically to this agency rather than to a rural mental health center. SNAMHS has the inpatient services located on the State campus at 6161 West Charleston Boulevard, Las Vegas Nevada 89146. SNAMHS has four mental health clinics serving the community. SNAMHS has two appointing authorities. One appointing authority represents the outpatient services and one appointing authority represents the inpatient services.

SNAMHS provides: Psychiatric Emergency Services, Inpatient Services, Mobile Crisis, Outpatient Counseling, Service Coordination, Intensive Service Coordination, Medication Clinic, Psychosocial Rehabilitation, Residential Support Programs, Mental Health Court, Senior Outreach, and Programs for Assertive Community Treatment (PACT) teams.

The Fiscal Year 2006 - 2007 biennium budget for SNAMHS is $182,951,837 and SNAMHS has 790.72 full-time equivalent (FTE) staff positions. At the end of 2006, SNAMHS served 53% of all individuals receiving mental health services from the State of Nevada, Division of Mental Health and Developmental Services.
