Entrance to Lake's Crossing Center

Lake's Crossing Center is Nevada's only program for the mentally disordered offender.  The agency provides statewide residential and outpatient services to individuals who have been evaluated as requiring mental health services in order to proceed with their adjudication.  Such services require a fully coordinated effort as Lake's Crossing Center must meet a wide range of needs for a diverse population.

Inpatient treatment services are ordinarily limited to individuals committed to the facility pursuant to an order for evaluation of competency to stand trial (NRS 178.415), clients who have been adjudicated incompetent to stand trial (NRS 178.425); clients adjudicated Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity (NGRI) (NRS 175.539); or clients who are admitted by direction of the Administrator of MHDS who are too dangerous to be managed at a less restrictive facility.

To provide a maximum security facility for the inpatient treatment of the mentally disordered offender and when appropriate to provide outpatient evaluations of competency…

Mission Statement

Treatment of the individual found incompetent to stand trial is orientated toward establishing or determining capacity for restoration of legal competency to stand trial.  Legal competency is the ability of the client to understand the charges brought against him and/or the ability to assist counsel in the preparation of his defense.  Treatment of NGRI clients is designed to aid their recovery so they may return safely to the community.  Treatment of administrative transfers is aimed at designing a program that allows the client to be managed safely at a less restrictive facility.

Clients are admitted subsequent to careful evaluation on a case to case basis.  Treatment for those individuals requires a highly structured, secure setting for protection of the individual, care providers and the community.  Disposition of the individual cases is made on a case-by-case basis in consultation with the appropriate district judge, district attorney, and defense attorney.  Consultation may also be provided to receiving facilities at or prior to discharge such as the local detention centers or civil hospitals.
